Call for Abstracts
(Symposium official language is English)
The call for abstracts for the symposium will open on 26 February 2019. Interested persons should submit abstracts online by no later than 23 April 2019. All abstracts submitted will be reviewed by the symposium Scientific Committee. The abstract submissions will inform the parallel sessions. To maintain the high standards of previous symposia, the review process for the abstract submissions is intensive and thorough. Acceptance of abstracts for oral or posters will be communicated to successful applicants no later than 6 May 2019.
Abstract format and content
The abstract should summarise your original research which is in line with the symposium theme and sub-themes and will add value to the meeting.
Abstracts should not exceed 350 words (including title, names of authors, names of author institutions and contact details of the lead author).
Please include the following details:
Project title: Name of your research project
Initial and surname of each author with the main author underlined
The name(s) of organization(s) that author(s) is(are) affiliated to.
Briefly indicate the context, background and importance of the topic, the research question, controversy or a gap in the field of research
Provide a description of research design (qualitative or quantitative), data source(s), subjects, data collection and analysis
Summary and discussion of the results
Statement of the study’s conclusion and /or implication of the results, in particular the extent to which research can be translated into action
How to Submit your Abstract
When entering the SAMRC Event system, you need to create a personal PROFILE. Once your profile is created, you will receive a confirmation email.
Using the login details on this confirmation email you are required to change your password. You then select SUBMISSION which takes you to the abstract form. Complete the fields and either select SAVE FOR LATER which has an expiry date of 3 days or select SUBMIT if you are happy to submit your abstract. After submitting your abstract, you will receive confirmation of your submission via email.
On submission, please select the form of presentation:
- Oral presentation, or
- Poster presentation
Oral presentations must be in English, no longer than 10 minutes’ duration, plus 5 minutes for questions.
Posters will be on display in a prominent position during the symposium. Full details for the preparation of posters will be included in the abstract acceptance letter.

Size of all posters must be 1200mm high x 950mm in width as indicated below in the illustration
Each delegate will be provided with a poster number whereby he or she will be informed where posters need to be mounted. This information will be posted on the website in due course.
Delegates are requested to please bring along their own double-sided tape to hold up their poster.
